- Letter to the UA Community From President Shelton August 26, 2009
With the fall 2009 semester now in full swing at The University of Arizona, many members of the extended UA community have expressed concern about how the H1N1 influenza virus, commonly referred to as the H1N1 flu, may affect our students, faculty and staff. I am writing to address those concerns.
- Swine Flu Update May 22, 2009
Members of the University of Arizona Campus Emergency Response Team have reviewed the updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) travel advisory from May 15, 2009. In that update, the CDC has downgraded its travel advisory from a “Travel Health Warning” to a “Travel Health Precaution,” which includes removing the recommendation against non-essential travel to Mexico. The UA-CERT Policy Group has decided to continue to follow its practice of having UA travel recommendations conform to the recommendations of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and will now allow all University related travel to Mexico.
- UA Student, Now Fully Recovered, Diagnosed with H1N1 Flu; Campus Continues to Monitor the Flu Outbreak

A student at The University of Arizona was among four additional individuals diagnosed with H1N1 (“swine”) influenza in Pima County, according to the Pima County Health Department. Pima County now has 10 confirmed cases of H1N1.
The UA student, who lives alone off campus, according to the health department, was treated and released at University Medical Center on April 27 and has fully recovered from the mild flu illness.

Pima County Reports First H1N1 Flu Cases; None Reported at UA

As anticipated, the Pima County Health Department has confirmed its first cases of H1N1 flu (formerly referred to as "swine" flu) in Pima County.
County health officials reported Sunday that six cases of the flu were confirmed in Pima County: Four cases from the Tohono O'dham Nation; one case from the Tucson Unified School District and one in the Marana Unified School District. No cases were reported at The University of Arizona. Seventeen cases had been confirmed in Arizona.

Swine Flu Outbreak Widens, UA Monitors Situation

As the international swine flu outbreak continues to widen – and with the flu confirmed to be present in Arizona – officials at The University of Arizona continue to meet daily to closely monitor the situation, take immediate steps to protect the health of the campus community and to prepare to respond quickly, if necessary.

UA Recommends Against Non-Essential Travel to Mexico, Closely Monitors Swine Flu Outbreak Elsewhere

The University of Arizona is closely monitoring the international outbreak of "swine influenza," and has issued a recommendation against UA faculty, staff or students engaging in non-essential travel to Mexico until further notice.

UA Officials Monitoring Swine Flu Situation

As state health officials announced today that the first confirmed case of swine flu was reported in Arizona, key officials with The University of Arizona continued to meet and monitor the outbreak closely.
